FIRST CHURCH VOLUNTEER TEAM FOR FIRST FOOD & FRIENDS

Please consider volunteering to be part of a First Church team to prepare and serve the meal on Saturday, August 26th at our First Food & Friends weekly meal ministry.  Come to Fellowship Hall at 9:00am.  Clean-up is done by 1:00pm.  If you are willing to come that Saturday, it is very important to email Karen Merrick at crimmerr@aol.com or sign up on the clipboard at summer worship today.   We need to know how many volunteers we will have on that Saturday so Patrick, the Director, knows he will have enough help.  Please sign up or email Karen Merrick by Monday, August 21st.

LUNCH AND LEARN -Sunday, August 27th There will be a lunch and learn after worship on August 27th to explore the realities of incarceration in our nation and in our neighborhood. Join us for discussion, reflection, and an exploration of the ways that our community can respond to the needs of people impacted by incarceration. Questions? Talk to Anais.

MY LIFE IN JERUSALEM  —   August 27th

Tina Whitehead has been in Jerusalem and the West Bank since 2006, working with Palestinian Christian organizations but connecting also with the Muslim community.  During this past year, she has had the opportunity to share the Palestinian story with Christian tour groups who stay at hotels in Bethlehem.  Come and hear her story.

The Wrestling with Racism Team of the First United Methodist Church and Warren United Methodist Church invites you to participate in an extremely exciting event in September:

Viewing and discussion of the movie 13th:  Saturday, September 30th at 4 pm at Warren United Methodist Church   at 2604 Centre Avenue, Pittsburgh

Please mark your calendars now.  Please join us to view this outstanding film and to discuss the movie over light snacks. Please invite your friends! This gathering is open to anyone who   wishes to attend!  The movie is named after the 13th Amendment which was ratified in 1865 and abolished slavery in the United States.

BRING YOUR CLOTHES TO THE CHURCH!

If you have clothes that you are hoping to get rid of, please bring them to the church. We have clothing bins here at the church to fill. All proceeds from the clothing bins will support our summer youth mission trips.

RECYCLE BATTERIES OPPORTUNITIES

How does one respond to the mandate to “recycle batteries responsibly.” Where can you take them?! Good News!  Our church’s “Eco-Committee” has two recommendations: (1) you can take your batteries to Target in East Liberty and deposit them in the bin marked “Electronics” at the bottom of the escalator, or (2) you

can bring them to church on Sunday morning and put them in the “Recycle Batteries” bin located in the Gathering Space before or after worship.  Please no car batteries. Questions, speak to Dave or email RevDFKeller@aol.com.

WORSHIP JAM: LET EVERYTHING YOU ARE PRAISE GOD! WEDNESDAYS 7pm

Worship Jam involves your whole self in worship. Each week, we take a verse or two from the lectionary readings of the week and explore it through interactive, multi-sensory, and playful ways. Worship Jam is a community that seeks and celebrates the spiritual essence of life through earth-based traditions, Christian mysticism, and scientific revelation. Please join us any Wednesday at 7pm in the chapel.
